[...] Here’s a blast from an almost four-year-old, distant past: over the past few days there has been a micro-debate about the identity of the “first White House blogger.” I found out about it because William Beutler discovered some dead links on the rexblog (now fixed) related to posts relevant to the topic I made a few years back. He was responding to a post from Micah Sifry on the techPresident weblog related to a recurring mini-dispute over who gets credit for being the first blogger to receive White House press credentials.

Bill--

Thanks for all that background. Garrett says he "was the first person who was a blogger first and foremost, whose sole outlet was a blog, and whose organization was only a website, not a print and web publication." So while Eric Pfeiffer was blogging for National Review Online and got credentials as such, I think Garrett wins the argument on points, mainly because he came from the beyond (i.e. not from a print publication that has been around for 50 years with a web arm). That said, like all things webby, the argument won't be settled by you or me, and I do promise to include an update in my original post and a link to your post about it.

Best,
